Florida Reports Fewer Than 4,000 New Coronavirus Cases

Florida health officials on Sunday reported one of the state's lowest increases in the number of new coronavirus cases in the past month.

TALLAHASSEE, FL — Florida health officials on reported fewer than 4,000 new cases of the coronavirus on Sunday, the lowest increase in the past month. Health officials reported 107 new deaths and 3,779 new cases of the virus.

The total number of deaths in Florida rose to 9,452 Sunday from 9,345 deaths a day earlier. The latest one-day record of 276 reported deaths was set on Tuesday.

Health officials reported another 135 deaths involving non-Florida residents who died in Florida. The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Florida rose to 573,416 on Sunday, up from 569,637 a day earlier. But that's also lower than in recent days.

Twenty of Florida's 67 counties reported new deaths Sunday compared to 205 new deaths Saturday (state health officials reported 204), 228 new deaths Friday, 148 new deaths reported Thursday, 226 new deaths Wednesday (state health officials reported 212), 276 new deaths reported Tuesday, 91 new deaths Monday and 83 new deaths last Sunday (state health officials reported 77).

Here's a breakdown of the counties reporting new deaths:

  • Dade County reported 10 new deaths.
  • Broward County reported 40 new deaths.
  • Palm Beach County reported three new deaths.
  • Hillsborough County reported 23 new deaths.
  • Volusia County reported six new deaths.
  • Brevard County reported four new deaths.
  • Pinellas County reported four new deaths.
  • Escambia County reported two new deaths.
  • Indian River County reported two new deaths.
  • Putnam County reported two new deaths.
  • St. Johns County reported two new deaths.
  • Collier County reported one new death.
  • Duval County reported one new death.
  • Jackson County reported one new death.
  • Lake County reported one new death.
  • Levy County reported one new death.
  • Madison County reported one new death.
  • Osceola County reported one new death.
  • St. Lucie County reported one new death.
  • Suwannee County reported one new death.

Florida reported a statewide positive test rate of 13.53 percent based on 4,239,309 tests as of Sunday. That represents an increase of 29,934 more tests from the previous day.

The state reported 33,928 hospitalizations up from 33,661 hospitalizations a day earlier. That represents an increase of 267 new hospitalizations over the previous day, which is also lower than in recent days.

Miami-Dade, which includes Miami and Miami Beach, reported 145,307 cases of the virus as of Sunday. Nearby Broward County, which includes Fort Lauderdale, reported 66,447 cases. Palm Beach County, which includes Palm Beach, West Palm and Boca Raton, reported 39,129 cases.

Hillsborough County, which includes Tampa, reported 34,238 cases. Orange County, which includes Orlando, reported 33,382 cases.
