High School Football Coach Accused Of Asking Girl, 16, For Sex In Bradenton, Deputies Say

An assistant high school football coach in Bradenton was charged with soliciting sexual battery by an authority figure, deputies said.

BRADENTON, FL — A high school coach is accused of asking a student for sex and sending the 16-year-old girl explicit text messages, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

A parent of the child told deputies on Monday that Lagarius Spikes, 42, an assistant football coach at Bayshore High School in Bradenton, made sexually explicit comments to her and asked her for sex while in his office. He later sent her explicit text messages, the sheriff’s office said.

Detectives with the MCSO Crimes Against Children unit interviewed the victim and her parent about the sexually explicit conversations and phone messages from over the past week.

Evidence included an audio recorded conversation, establishing probable cause to arrest Spikes and charge him with soliciting sexual battery by an authority figure, the sheriff’s office said.

He was taken into custody Tuesday morning at his Palmetto home and booked into the Manatee County Jail.
