Hurricane Irma: Manatee County Suspends Services
From garbage collection to bus service, Manatee County is canceling services ahead of Hurricane Irma.

BRADENTON, FL – While Hurricane Irma’s path may not cross directly over the Tampa Bay area, Manatee County is preparing for being swiped by the Category 5 storm’s hurricane-force winds.
Manatee County adjusted some of its service operations for the weekend in advance of the storm:
- Garbage collection is canceled for Saturday. County officials will make a decision over the weekend for Monday’s garbage collections.
- The Lena Road Landfill will be closed on Saturday.
- The Northwest Service Area reclaimed water system will be shut off on the morning of Friday, Sept. 8. It will remain off until storm conditions pass and damage assessments conducted. For updates after the storm passes, visit www.mymanatee.org/reclaimedwater.
- Manatee County will not shut off regular water service to mobile home parks or the Island unless a mandatory evacuation is enforced.
- Manatee County Area Transit is suspending services beginning Friday, Sept. 8. This includes bus routes, the Longboat Key Shuttle and the Anna Maria Island Trolley.
