K-9 Catches Man Accused of Pointing Pistol at People

A man who reportedly pointed his gun at people in a Bradenton neighborhood was eventually found hiding under a mattress, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

A man accused of pointing a gun at people in a Bradenton neighborhood was taken into a custody Tuesday after deputies chased him and a K-9 eventually found him hiding under a mattress, authorities say.

The Manatee County Sheriff's Office was called out to the 700 block of 60th Avenue Terrace West around 5:44 p.m. after the man was reportedly walking around the area with a pistol and pointing it at people.

A deputy arrived at the scene and spotted a man matching the description from the call — a man dressed in plaid shorts and a black shirt and riding on a skateboard. When the deputy identified himself, the man immediately ran.

The deputy chased the suspect but lost him when he ran behind a house with an open door. A search of the house turned up empty, but deputies then noticed a fresh break in a backyard fence. When a K-9 unit arrived, authorities began searching the area.

Eventually, a witness told deputies a man matching the suspect's description ran into his house at 504 59th Avenue Terrace West and "he shouldn't be there."

The home's residents were removed and K-9 "Frankie" began searching inside. The suspect, identified as Michael Figueroa, was found hiding under a mattress in a back bedroom.

Figueroa suffered "some minor superficial cuts and punctures to his shoulder," from the K-9, according to the report. He had also stolen some pants and put them on, the report states.

Booking information for Figueroa was not immediately available on the sheriff's website Tuesday night.
