BRADENTON, FL — A man was convicted of second-degree murder in a 2022 fatal shooting at a Bradenton bar, according to a news release from State Attorney Ed Brodsky’s office.
Mario Roberto Alba-Reyes was convicted on April 2 following a jury trial at the Manatee County Judicial Center.
He faces a minimum of 25 years in prison and a maximum possible sentence of life in prison. Sentencing hasn’t been scheduled yet.

Alba-Reyes argued with the victim, Domingo Mendez, in the parking lot of La Barkania bar on Oct. 29, 2022.
During the argument, he got a gun from his SUV and shot Mendez in his head, killing him, the state attorney’s office said. After the shooting, Alba-Reyes drove away from the scene in his SUV, hitting a stop sign along the way.

Evidence from the crash and witnesses outside the bar identified Alba-Reyes as the shooter, Brodsky’s office said.
“Thanks to a witness’ presence of mind to capture what turned out to be extremely valuable evidence of the defendant’s SUV as it left the scene of the shooting, and the quick response by law enforcement to identify the individual responsible, justice will be served on Mario Alba-Reyes for the murder of Domingo Mendez,” Dickey Hough, assistant state attorney, said.
