BRADENTON, FL — A man who walked into a BP gas station on Manatee Avenue early Sunday morning had “quite a story,” Bradenton police said.

The man, who wandered into the gas station around 3:20 a.m., claimed that he had woken up in the passenger seat of a pickup truck in the water at the State Road 64 boat ramp, police said.

Officers who investigated his story found the truck in the water, confirmed no one else was inside and determined it belonged to the man, who was brought to the hospital.

The tracks indicated that the truck left Manatee Avenue’s eastbound lanes, rolled down the embankment and came to a rest in the mangroves, police said.

The boat ramp parking area was closed until about 7:45 a.m.
