Manatee County Schools: Hurricane Make-Up Days Approved

Breaking: Manatee County school kids have two days to make up before the winter break begins.

BRADENTON, FL — Manatee County school kids who cheered when classes were cancelled earlier in the month due to Hurricane Hermine may not be too happy about a recent development. The Manatee County School Board has announced upcoming make-up dates.

Instead of getting early release days on Oct. 5 and Dec. 7 for Professional Learning Early Release days, the board has made both full school days. In addition, winter break will start on Dec. 23 with students and employees both reporting to classes on Dec. 22 to make up time lost. Winter break was originally intended to begin on Thursday, Dec. 22.

“Our goal was to retrieve the most valuable instructional time we could and support our students and employees,” Superintendent Dr. Diana Greene said in a statement. “I apologize for the disruption to your schedule, but my number one concern is how to retrieve the most productive use of instructional time for our students.”
