Manatee County Schools Reopen Tuesday After Hurricane Ian: District

16 Manatee County schools, 2 support sites lost power during Hurricane Ian. Now, the district is ready to reopen Tuesday.

MANATEE COUNTY, FL — After closing last week because of Hurricane Ian, Manatee County public schools and support sites will reopen Tuesday, according to a news release from the district.

Bus transportations, as well as athletics and other after-school activities, also resume Tuesday.

In the days following the hurricane, the district had 16 schools and two support sites without power.

“So, it has taken a heroic effort by many, many people to get this accomplished,” the district said.

Manatee County Schools worked closely with numerous state and local agencies and leaders, including Manatee County Emergency Management and County Administrator Scott Hopes, to prepare the schools for reopening.

“We also thank all of the local power companies and utility workers from around the state and nation, as well as district maintenance, custodial and food service teams that continue to work diligently to get our schools ready for Tuesday,” the district said.
