Manatee Inmate Loses Consciousness And Dies At Jail
A 62-year-old inmate at Manatee County Jail lost consciousness and died Wednesday afternoon.
BRADENTON, FL — A 62-year-old inmate at Manatee County Jail lost consciousness and died Wednesday afternoon after complaining of chest pain, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
"There are no signs of foul play, nor did the inmate show symptoms, or test positive for the coronavirus," a spokesperson for the sheriff's office said.
The inmate, who was not immediately identified, was awaiting court on felony warrant charges. He arrived at the jail from the Florida Department of Corrections on Feb. 21.

The spokesperson said the inmate had multiple health conditions and had been housed in the medical unit of the jail since he arrived.
He began complaining of chest pain around 12:15 p.m. and was taken to a medical exam room in the jail where he lost consciousness, according to the spokesperson.

"Medical staff and deputies immediately began life-saving efforts," the spokesperson said. "EMS responded to the jail and continued CPR, but the inmate was unable to be revived. He was pronounced dead at 1:06 pm."
The sheriff's office said detectives are investigating the inmate's death pending the results of an autopsy.
