Man Admits to Dumping Dead Hogs

Justin Alday phoned police to say he and his brother dumped 20 wild boar carcasses into Wares Creek.

The person responsible for dumping dead hogs in a Bradenton creek stepped forward Wednesday night to take responsibility for leaving 20 carcasses in the downtown waterway.

Bradenton police said that Justin Alday, 34, contacted authorities to say he had seen news reports about the dumping in Wares Creek. He told police he meant no harm by leaving the carcasses and apologized for creating "a stink," according to the Bradenton Herald.

He told police that he thought that the decomposing animals would be eaten by predators and wash away.

Alday said in an interview with the Bradenton Herald that he and friends had hunted the wild hogs and then butchered them for a holiday cookout that fed about 50 people.

Alday called Bradenton police shortly after 11 p.m. Wednesday night. He said he had seen the story on the TV news and that he and his brother had left behind as many as 20 dead hogs in the creek after clearing land in East Manatee County, according to a Bradenton police report.

It is not clear why he chose Wares Creek in downtown Bradenton to dump the wild boar carcasses. He has offered to remove any other hog remains left in the creek bed.
