Pedestrian Killed by Hit-and-Run Driver

State troopers are searching for a Chevy van that hit the pedestrian and then drove off. The van will have front-end damage from the accident.

A Chevy van struck and killed a pedestrian– and then drove off – early this morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol, which is searching for the vehicle and driver.

The pedestrian, who has not yet been identified, was killed near 15th Street East and 57th Avenue East, just before 3 a.m.

According to the FHP report, the van was heading north on 15th Street East. A pedestrian was walking along 15th Street East, near the intersection of 57th Avenue East, when the van struck the person from behind.

The pedestrian was thrown forward into the north lane of 15th Street East. The vehicle, which may be a Chevrolet Astro van, drove away, troopers said.

The van will have front end damage from the crash. The Florida Highway Patrol is asking that anyone with information about the vehicle or the accident call FHP Cpl. Darrell Carroll at 941-751-8366.
