Scooter Driver Killed on 26th Street West
The man lost control and was thrown from the scooter into a sign, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The man killed in Thursday's scooter accident has been identified as Raymond C. Russ, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A 44-year-old Bradenton man was killed after he was thrown from his scooter after losing control of it while driving Thursday afternoon, investigators said.
The man was headed southbound in the 2900 block of 26th Street West in an outside lane around 2:06 p.m. when he "failed to maintain control" of his 2012 Bash scooter, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
The scooter struck a curb and overturned onto its right side, the report states. The driver struck a pedestrian crossing sign on the west shoulder of the roadway and was knocked off the scooter.
He was taken to Blake Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.
Highway patrol officials have not released the man's identity because they say they have not been able to locate any next of kin to notify.
It was unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash, according to the report.
The man was not wearing a helmet, officials said.
