A civilian pilot with the Manatee County Sheriff's Office was charged with battery after confronting people about speeding.

MANATEE COUNTY, FL — A civilian pilot with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office was arrested and charged with felony battery after confronting two people about speeding through his neighborhood on Wednesday evening, the agency said in a news release.

Brian Weathers, 50, confronted the man and woman just before 7:30 p.m.

The woman was standing in her driveway and began to remove items from the car when Weathers took a soda cup off the roof and threw it inside the car, the sheriff’s office said.

The man got out of the car and tried to push Weathers off his property.

Weathers swatted the man’s hands away and hit him in the face, MCSO said. The woman tried to separate the two but was hit in the mouth and head by the suspect.

He had been working with the MCSO, where he was assigned to the Aviation Unit, since September.
