Southeastern Guide Dogs Visit Bradenton School

Debbie Stanley & "Diva" from Southeastern Guide Dogs in Palmetto recently paid a visit to Manatee Elementary School.

Students at Manatee Elementary School recently welcomed a “Diva” on campus. The Ambassador dog from Southeastern Guide Dogs visited, along with her handler, to give students an educational presentation about service animals. Dr. Noelle DeLaCruz, School Psychologist, initiated the service project in an effort to integrate meaningful community service with instruction, enrich the learning experience, and strengthen communities. The theme for School Psychology Awareness Week, which runs November 14-18, is Small Steps Change Lives. “As educators, we are always taking small steps to develop the academic and social-emotional skills of our students, in order to promote personal achievement, growth, well-being, and resilience,” said DeLaCruz, who was assisted by School Social Worker, Emily Castaneda. Students from Mr. Searls’ class made collars to donate to Southeastern Guide Dogs’ puppies; also, Mr. Phaneuf’s class sold chocolate to raise money for a gift card and Nylabone treats. The two classes will participate in more service projects in the coming months, identifying community organizations in need.
