Top NFL Prospect Arrested in Palmetto

D'Andre Kirkpatrick, a standout at the University of Alabama, was arrested on charges of marijuana possession, after police stopped the vehicle he was in for driving on the wrong side of the road.

A top NFL prospect was arrested in Bradenton today on charges of marijuana possession.

D'Andre "Dre" Kirkpatrick, 22, was arrested just after midnight Tuesday, after Palmetto police stopped the car he was riding in because it was traveling on the wrong side of the road, according to Dave Bristow, a spokesman for the Manatee County Sheriiff's Office.

Kirkpatrick is a standout cornerback who is leaving the University of Alabama early to enter the NFL draft.

According to the probable cause affadavit obtained by Patch on Tuesday, Kirkpatrick was a passenger in the truck that was stopped. Christopher Airreun Rogers, 25, of Baltimore, Md., another former Alabama player, was stopped for driving on the wrong side of the road.

A dog detected drugs in the truck, according to the report. An officer searched the truck and found less than 20 grams of marijuana on the passenger side at Kirkpatrick’s feet.

According to the report, Kirkpatrick admitted to being in the truck when the drugs were purchased, but said he did not know that it was a drug buy. Kirkpatrick posted $120 bond and was released.

His court date is currently set for Feb. 21 at 8:30 a.m.
