Donald Trump Sweeps Florida’s Electoral College Vote

President-elect Donald Trump officially has Florida's 29 electoral votes in his pocket.

TALLAHASSEE, FL — Despite protesters’ best efforts, all 29 of Florida’s electors cast their ballots in favor of President-elect Donald Trump Monday.

Florida’s electors met at the state Capitol around 2 p.m. Monday to cast their ballots in a ceremony that has been playing out in states across the country. An estimated 200 protesters showed up outside the Florida Senate chambers in advance of the vote, several media outlets have reported.

Monday’s proceedings were overseen by Secretary of State Ken Detzner. All electors were selected by the Republican Party of Florida, reflecting the outcome of the Nov. 8 election.

Protests were part of a last-ditch effort to stop Trump from winning the White House. Last week, Democrat activist Daniel Brezenoff took out full-page newspaper ads in key markets across the country urging Electoral College members to cast their ballots against Trump.

“You, Electors, possess the power to prevent this outcome,” the ad placed in such newspapers as the Washington Post and the Tampa Bay Times read. “You are not bound to cast your vote for the candidate of your party – and, as he won neither a majority nor even a plurality of the popular vote, there can be no question of undermining the will of The People.”
