Elderly Man Critically Wounded After Man Breaks Into His Valrico Home

VALRICO, FL — An elderly man is in critical condition after a man broke into his home in the 4000 block of Copper Canyon Boulevard off South Mulrennan Road in Valrico and attacked him.

On Tuesday, just before 5:30 p.m., deputies received a call from a woman who said her husband had been attacked in their home.

Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies arrived and found the elderly man in the bedroom with severe upper-body trauma.

The wife told deputies that her husband had been home alone for several hours and she had not been able to reach him by phone.

At some point while she was out of the house, a man broke in and a struggle between the robber and the elderly man occurred, during which the elderly man was shot with his own gun. The attacker fled, taking the gun with him.

The elderly man was taken to Tampa General Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Detectives identified his attacker as Logan Hall, 22, who lives near the elderly man. When questioned by detectives, Hall confessed to the crime. He was arrested and the stolen firearm used to attack the elderly man was found in his vehicle.

“This suspect had every intention of leaving the victim for dead after senselessly and viciously attacking an innocent man," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "Detectives swiftly worked to identify the suspect who showed no remorse for his actions. Our prayers are with the victim's family as he fights for his life."

Hall is charged with attempted first-degree murder, armed burglary of an occupied dwelling with a firearm, and two counts of grand theft of a firearm.
