Valrico Shooting Victim's Name Released
Breaking: A 17-year-old was killed in a New Year's Day shooting in Valrico.

VALRICO, FL — As the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate a fatal New Year’s Day shooting in Valrico, detectives have released the name of the victim. According to the agency, the person killed was Jayquon Johnson, 17.
The incident that led to Johnson's death occurred in the 4500 block of Cabbage Palm Drive in the afternoon hours of Jan. 1. Johnson was taken to a local hospital, but died later, the sheriff's office wrote in an email to media.
The shooter in the case, the sheriff's office said, remained on the scene. Few other details have been released at this time, including the accused shooter's name.

“The death investigation involving a shooting on Cabbage Palm Drive on Sunday afternoon remains active with ongoing interviews including with the shooter and examination of latent forensic evidence,” the email explained. “Detectives are working closely with the Hillsborough County State Attorney's Office and the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Office.”
