Viewfinder: Tornado-Like Devastation at a Greater Brandon Home
March ends with a massive storm system that caused massive damages for some homeowners, including the occupants of this home between Brandon and Winthrop, south of Bloomingdale Avenue and north of Symmes Elementary School.
Cheryl Mestas said she was standing by the sliding glass door with her grandson, “looking out at the rain,” when she noticed the drops were parallel to the ground as she heard “popping" noises and a “roaring” sound. When she opened the door, she added, “we all started screaming.” These pictures show the aftermath of that moment, which Mestas described in a story posted at Brandon Patch, “American Dream Sours for Family Stricken by Savage Storm.” The home is at 2213 Cornell Drive in Riverview, between Brandon and Winthrop, just north of Symmes Elementary School and south of Bloomingdale Avenue, off Watson Road.
