Worker Hit and Killed on I-75, Lanes Remain Closed

Two Southbound lanes of I-75 will remain closed for at least a few hours this morning.

 A construction worker from Valrico was killed around 4:30 am when he was hit and killed by a pickup truck on I-75 near State Road 60, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The pickup, driven by Logan tanner Feagle of Land O' Lakes, struck a construction trailer before hitting Robert P. Armstrong, Jr. who died on the scene. Armstrong was a Valrico resident, said the Highway Patrol.

Workers were in the area moving traffic control devices and message boards along the shoulder of the highway.

The two righthand lanes of Southbound I-75 are expected to reopen shortly after 8:30 a.m. The lanes were closed for much of the morning while the incident was being investigated.

Drivers seeking alternate routes has also meant heavy than normal traffic on Martin Luther King Boulevard and U.S. 301 in the area.
