CLEARWATER, FL — When eight little ducklings lost their way Sunday and found themselves trapped in a bad situation, the crew from Clearwater Fire Rescue’s Station 50 swung into action to make the save.

According to Clearwater Fire Rescue, the eight wayward ducklings had managed to get themselves stuck inside a storm drain at Westfield Countryside Mall. With a ladder and a box in tow, firefighters reported to the scene to help the critters.

“The babies were safely plucked from their perilous perch and returned to a nearby pond to be reunited with their excited parents,” fire rescue reported on Facebook Monday morning.

While Clearwater firefighters are experts at saving people trapped in dangerous places, they’re no strangers to rescuing the feathered and furry critters that all call the city home. Their counterparts at the Clearwater Police Department have also been known to go above and beyond the call of duty to protect and serve creatures other than people. Last year, officers rushed to save a bald eagle that was injured by a car and ended up stopping traffic near the mall.
