1 Dead, 2 Injured In PSTA Bus Crash With SUV On Roosevelt Boulevard: FL Troopers

The PSTA bus driver made a left turn, despite having a red light, causing an SUV to crash into it, FL Highway Patrol said.

PINELLAS COUNTY, FL — An SUV driver was killed in a Saturday night crash with a Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority bus that ran a red light on Roosevelt Boulevard, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.

The PSTA bus was heading west on the highway around 8:40 p.m. when the driver, a 38-year-old Pinellas Park man, stopped at the red light at the Lake Carillon Drive intersection.

Despite the red light, he turned left at the intersection anyway, into the path of a Nissan Armada, driven by a 57-year-old Clearwater man, FHP said.

The SUV, which was heading east on Roosevelt Boulevard, crashed into the bus.

The bus driver, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from his vehicle.

Both drivers were brought to an area hospital with injuries, FHP said.

The SUV’s passenger, a 57-year-old Clearwater woman, also suffered serious injuries, the agency said. She was brought to an area hospital, where she later died.
