PINELLAS COUNTY, FL — The Pinellas County Air Quality section of Public Works has issued an air pollution advisory due to elevated levels of fine particulate matter pollution.

This advisory is effective throughout Oct. 3. It's due in part to a smoke plume from distant wildfires being transported by wind conditions to the area and throughout the state, which can be unhealthy for sensitive people. Those with lung disease such as asthma, older adults, children and teenagers, and people who are active outdoors should consider reducing prolonged or heavy outdoor exertion until air quality conditions are better.

The air quality section is monitoring the particle pollution levels and will inform the public if conditions worsen or if the outlook changes.
