Bomb Scare at Clearwater Social Security Office: Man in Custody

Breaking: Clearwater Police say they have a man in custody, accused of threatening to bomb a Social Security office Friday.

CLEARWATER, FL — A bomb scare and evacuation at Clearwater’s Social Security office Friday morning has ended peacefully with a man in custody.

According to the Clearwater Police Department, a man walked into the 2340 Drew St. office just before 10 a.m. Sept. 30 and told a security guard he had a bomb. When police arrived, they took the man into custody, the agency wrote in an email to media.

The building and nearby businesses were evacuated, police said. A search for a bomb was subsequently conducted.

“Nothing of concern was found and occupants have returned to the buildings in that area,” the email said.

Police have not yet released the man’s name. He was being questioned at police headquarters late Friday morning with charges pending.
