Swimming isn't allowed along parts of Clearwater Beach because of a high risk of rip currents after a cold front, fire officials said.
CLEARWATER, FL — Because of a high risk of rip currents after a cold front moved into Florida overnight, no swimming is allowed along parts of Clearwater Beach, fire officials said.
“There is no swimming allowed from Tower 1 to the jetty, and yellow cautionary flags are flying elsewhere,” the Clearwater Fire & Rescue Department wrote in a social media post on Tuesday. “If you choose to go swimming today or any day, always swim near a lifeguard.”
Much of Florida is in a cold weather advisory Tuesday night into Wednesday with northern parts of the greater Tampa Bay area at risk for freezing temperatures.

“If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don`t swim against the current,” the NWS said. “If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.”
