Clearwater’s United Taxi Named Best in America
A Clearwater-based taxi company has been named the best in the business by a national organization.

CLEARWATER, FL — Clearwater’s United Taxi has been named the best in the business by the Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Association. Owner Nick Cambas is expected to receive the national accolade early next month.
Cambas was named the 2016 Taxicab Operator of the Year for his willingness to think outside of the box to serve customers, according to the association. United Taxi has partnered with Pinellas County to help “bridge the gap between commuters’ homes and where bus routes end,” a media release explained. It’s also introduced an app designed to make booking service simple.
“Nick has not just survived in the current transportation climate, he’s excelled,” TLPA CEO Alfred LaGasse said in a statement. “He brought in digital technology early on, and now he’s working with local governments to make transportation smoother for thousands of people. He’s a true leader in our field.”

Cambas entered Clearwater’s taxi industry as a teenager in the 1970s. His passion for the industry led him to found United Taxi, which now serves all of Pinellas County. In addition to providing transportation throughout the county and beyond, United Taxi is also actively involved in charitable efforts. It supports such organizations as the American Cancer Society, Feeding Children Everywhere and the Pediatric Cancer Center.
United Taxi is also actively involved in “Wheels to Worship.” The program provides free rides to church for the underprivileged. The company is also known to offer free rides home from bars when participating establishments ask for the service, the media release noted.

Cambas said community involvement is critical to United Taxi's success.
“Our company maintains meaningful commitment to community and we are proud to support a number of civic and charitable organizations,” Cambas told Patch. “That’s the key. Outstanding management comes from compassionate professionals.”
Cambas is also proud of United Taxi’s participation in transportation programs with Pinellas County.
“The growing popularity of public-private partnerships in transportation has provided exciting opportunities for taxi companies to contract with government agencies to improve service to people who are in need of subsidized service,” said Cambas. “As industry professionals, we are equipped to provide innovative transportation solutions, providing better service to passengers, saving taxpayer dollars and creating business opportunities for drivers.”
Cambas will receive his award during TLPA’s 98th annual Convention & Trade Show on Nov. 1 in Phoenix.
