Free Florida Produce Giveaway Set by Sen. Jack Latvala, Others

State Sen. Jack Latvala has announced three upcoming produce giveaways in Pinellas County.

CLEARWATER, FL — Tampa Bay area residents who need a little help putting food on their tables as the holidays near will soon get a little help from state elected officials and Farm Share.

State Sen. Jack Latvala, a Republican from Clearwater, has announced the date of his 14th annual produce giveaways in Pinellas County. Latvala will be joined by other elected officials at three giveaways set for Nov. 18 in cooperation with Farm Share.

Families who would like to take advantage of the giveaways need only show up. Produce will be available until supplies run out at three separate sites. No documentation is required to receive the free food, an email from Latvala’s office said.

“Many families in Florida and around the country don’t get enough of the proper amount of fruits and vegetables,” Latvala told Patch. “I’ve been doing this for 14 years, and just want to help out families in my district around the holidays to put food on their tables.”

The Friday, Nov. 18 giveaways have been scheduled as follows:

  • 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Citizen’s Alliance for Progress, 401 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Tarpon Springs. This event is co-sponsored by State Rep. Chris Sprowls, a Republican whose district includes Tarpon Springs, Dunedin and parts of Clearwater.
  • 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Willa Carson Health and Wellness Center, 1108 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. in Clearwater.
  • 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Highpoint Neighborhood Family Center in Clearwater, 5812 150th Ave. N. This distribution is co-sponsored by state Rep. Chris Latvala, a Republican from Clearwater.

Farm Share is a nonprofit that aims to provide nutritious foods to people in need. It is designed to serve as a link between farmers with surplus produce and social service agencies.
