Gulf-to-Bay Intersection to Close for Roadwork

The intersection was scheduled to close Tuesday and Wednesday nights to allow for road construction, as part of the U.S. 19 expansion project.

The intersection of Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard at U.S. 19 was scheduled to close Tuesday and Wednesday nights to allow workers to erect steel girders, according to the Department of Transportation.

The road is being closed from 8:30 p.m.-6 a.m. as crews install girders that will be part of a widened U.S. 19 bridge deck span over State Road 60.

The construction is part of the U.S. 19 expansion project from north of Whitney Road to north of State Road 60.

This major construction project consists of:

  • Removing traffic signals on U.S. 19 from Whitney Road to State Road 60;
  • Constructing interchanges at Seville Boulevard and Belleair Road;
  • Rebuilding the State Road 60 interchange.

1.) westbound traffic turning north at the northbound Frontage Road to Drew Street, west to Belcher, south to Gulf-to-Bay, east/west at that point depending upon destination to either westbound on Gulf-to-Bay or eastbound back to southbound U.S. 19.  

2.) For the eastbound traffic, motorists will need to turn south on bypass, then east on Druid back to U.S. 19, then south to the U-turn added just south of Nursery and back north to State Road 60.
