Habitat For Humanity Celebrates Record-Breaking Builds, Expansion

CLEARWATER, FL — More than 200 people attended the unveiling of the Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas and West Pasco Counties' expansion to its Clearwater administrative headquarters, 14010 Roosevelt Blvd., Suite 704, Clearwater, on June 30.

The expansion includes a Habitat archive display, new office space, a collaboration area and a conference room.

June 30 also marked the end of the fiscal year for Habitat. The Pinellas and West Pasco Habitat set an affiliate record this year, building 73 new homes. Since its founding in 1985, Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas and West Pasco Counties has built more than 800 homes in the community, about 500 built under the leadership of Habitat President & CEO Mike Sutton, who has led the nonprofit since 2014.

Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas and West Pasco Counties has served over 800 homeowner partners since 1985. Volunteers and future homeowners construct the homes, which are sold at no profit and financed with a zero-interest loan.

Habitat homeowner candidates earn 30 to 80 percent of the area median income. Candidates must demonstrate the need for adequate shelter, the ability to pay back a zero-interest loan and the willingness to partner with Habitat to complete a robust homebuyer education curriculum and invest 350 to 450 “sweat equity” hours.

Mortgage money is used to build more homes, making each donation to Habitat a perpetual legacy to the community.
