Harbor Oaks Centennial Celebration Set

Harbor Oaks neighborhood is celebrating its historic legacy as part of Clearwater Neighborhoods Day Saturday, April 13.

Brooklyn Dodgers owner Charles Ebbets once called it home.

So did inventor Donald Robling and author Rex Beach.

Harbor Oaks the city’s first and oldest planned residential development's Centennial Celebration is set to coincide with Clearwater Neighborhoods Day Saturday, April 13.

The waterfront neighborhood, generally bounded by Morton Plant Hospital to the north; South Fort Harrison Avenue to the east; and Belleair Road to the south, is the first Historic District in Pinellas County and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Harbor Oaks recently finished a neighborhood preservation campaign which included hanging centennial signs and preservation banners featuring the year a home was built.

And that is not all.

“Harbor Oaks,” an historical book about the neighborhood is expected to be published later this year. It is co-authored by Tom Adamich and Dr. Gary Dworkin, who lives in the Studebaker House which was built in 1925.

A barbecue block party coinciding with Clearwater Neighborhoods Day is planned from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 13, in the westernmost portion of Magnolia Drive along Druid Road at the Magnolia Drive Dock. There will be barbecue by Smokin Coles BBQ and music by Stacey Knights Group.

“The event is intended to get neighbors to know one another and celebrate our accomplishments,” Cedric Salterelli, president of Harbor Oaks Homeowners Association, said in a release. “Our priority is to continue for another 100 years building and sustaining this wonderful neighborhood, community and city.”
