Japanese Bargain Store To Expand In FL With 3 New Stores Planned
The Japanese brand's planned stores in Clearwater and South Florida are among Daiso's first in the state.
CLEARWATER, FL — Daiso, a Japanese bargain store, will open a new location this summer in Pinellas County, according to the company’s website.
The variety store is opening in Countryside Centre, a shopping center at 26583 Highway 19 North in Clearwater.
It’s located across the street from Westfield Countryside mall and anchor tenants include Dick’s SPorting Goods, TJ Maxx, HomeGoods and Ross, according to the Kimco Realty website.

Daiso’s Clearwater store is among the first to open in Florida.

A Tampa location — the company's first in Florida — opened in February and another store is planned to open this summer in Miami Gardens. Miami will also welcome a Daiso this fall.

There are more than 6,000 Daiso stores worldwide. About 150 of them are in the U.S. with 44 set to open this year. The brand moved into the U.S. in 2005.
The variety chain is known as a “100-yen store.” One hundred yen is the equivalent of .65 cents in the U.S., though most products range from $1.75 to $15.25, Creative Loafing said.
The 50-year-old, family-owned brand boasts more than 100,000 products including home decor, stationery, beauty products, food and more, according to the company website.
