Man Guilty In FL Fentanyl Death Sentenced To Prison

A Clearwater man who pleaded guilty to his involvement in a fatal fentanyl overdose was sentenced to federal prison, the U.S. DOJ said.

CLEARWATER, FL — A Clearwater man who pleaded guilty to a charge related to a fatal fentanyl overdose in 2020 was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison, according to a U.S. Department of Justice news release.

Dennis Jackson, 36, also known as “Miami,” pleaded guilty on Nov. 30, 2022, to conspiring to distribute fentanyl resulting in death.

First responders found the victim dead from an apparent overdose at a Clearwater home on April 1, 2020, the DOJ said.

Evidence of opioid use was found at the scene, and the autopsy and toxicology results confirmed that there was a lethal level of fentanyl in the victim’s body.

Witnesses identified Jackson as the supplier of the drugs, the department said.

Two days later, he went to the Clearwater Police Department for a voluntary interview. During that interview, he admitted to his involvement in the overdose.
