McMullen Tennis Complex Offers Buddy Up Tennis

The program offers tennis lessons for area residents with Down syndrome.

CLEARWATER, FL – The City of Clearwater has partnered with an organization that provides exercise and companionship to people with Down syndrome.

Buddy Up Tennis, which provides a high-energy adaptive tennis and fitness program with children and young adults with Down syndrome, has expanded to the Henry L. McMullen Tennis Complex.

The program consists of weekly 90-minute clinics on Saturdays from 9:30 to 11 a.m. starting Oct. 14. The clinics will include 60 minutes of professional tennis instruction and 30 minutes of fitness coordination.

The clinics cost $15 each or $90 for the entire fall season of seven clinics.

Buddy Up’s mission is to provide a supportive environment where athletes with Down syndrome can learn to play tennis while engaging in activities to help improve their athletic, social and emotional development with one-on-one attention from their “buddy” volunteers.
