Missouri Avenue Lanes Closed After Wheelchair Vs. Truck Crash

CLEARWATER, FL — Motorists who travel through the area of the 1200 block of Missouri Avenue in Clearwater might want to avoid doing so Thursday afternoon.

According to the City of Clearwater, police and firefighters are on the scene of a wreck involving serious injuries. Police say a man in a motorized wheelchair was trying to cross Missouri Avenue around 2 p.m. Dec. 1 when he was struck by a northbound pickup truck.

The man, who is not being identified by police at this time, was airlifted to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg. Police describe his injuries as serious.

Police say all lanes of Missouri Avenue in the 1200 block area are closed in both directions. The closing was expected to last for “sometime,” police reported just after 3 p.m.

No further information is being released at this time, including the name of the motorist involved.
