Ambulance Crash Under Investigation

Motorists were being asked to avoid a stretch of Drew Street following a Monday morning crash.

CLEARWATER, FL — Update May 29, 8:37 a.m.: The Clearwater Police Department has reopened the intersection of Drew Street and Fort Harrison Avenue following a Monday morning crash involving an ambulance. Further details about the crash have not yet been released.

Earlier: Motorists traveling through Clearwater are being asked to avoid a section of Drew Street Monday morning. According to the Clearwater Police Department, an accident involving a Sunstar ambulance has tied up the intersection of Drew Street and Fort Harrison Avenue.

Police say the crash occurred around 7 a.m. May 29 when another vehicle is believed to have run a red light. The vehicle then struck the ambulance, which overturned, an email from the police department said.

The ambulance was not transporting a patient at the time, police say. No injuries have been reported.
