Plane Makes Emergency Landing On Sand Key

Mechanical problems forced a small plane to land on a stretch of Sand Key Monday afternoon, police say.

CLEARWATER, FL — Mechanical issues forced the pilot of a small plane to make an emergency landing on Sand Key Monday afternoon.

Clearwater Police say the pilot managed to bring the experimental craft down on a deserted stretch of sand, just south of the Sheraton. As a result, no one on the beach was injured. Two people on board the plane also escaped injuries, Rob Shaw, the police department’s spokesman, wrote in an email.

“The pilot reported he had some type of mechanical issue before landing,” Shaw said.
