Red Light Camera Violator of the Week: Missing It

A car brakes hard to miss another vehicle turning during a red light at the Belcher Road and Gulf to Bay Boulevard intersection, making the latest Clearwater Police Red Light Camera Violator of the Week.

The violation comes with a $158 fine.

Clearwater Police posted the video on its Facebook Page March 13:

"I'm thinking with the amount of red light runners at this intersection, and others, maybe the police should do something besides just red light camera tickets. Police presence is everything," Joe Defibaugh commented. "Utilize your motorcycle officers, and traffic units to set something up to start showing the general public there is more consequences than just a ticket in the mail, and maybe spare someone their life from an accident that is bound to occur at the rate these red light violations are occurring."

Clearwater Police Department: "CPD does not rely only on red light cameras for traffic enforcement. The traffic unit conducts traffic enforcement details at various locations throughout the city including this road and intersection. This camera is simply a tool that allows for additional coverage since we do not have the ability to staff police officers at this or any section 24-7."
