St. Petersburg College's Apprenticeship Program Strengthens Local Workforce
PowerTown Line Construction has partnered with SPC to develop an electrical lineman and ground technician program.
PINELLAS COUNTY, FL — PowerTown Line Construction has partnered with St. Petersburg College to develop an apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship program for electrical linemen and ground technicians for their organization.
The 8,000-hour electrical lineman apprenticeship program will provide structured and cohesive training within the organization and the opportunity for apprentices to articulate college credit through the career certificate program at SPC.
More than 120 apprentices will join the first cohort in the coming months to complete the four-year apprenticeship program.

“PowerTown is excited to partner together with SPC, not only to drive the importance of structured employee training through apprenticeship programs, but also grow and create a stronger community workforce and organization,” Power Town Training director and SPC workforce instructor Stephen Magenheimer said.
From information technology to medical care, SPC is a collaborative educational partner to various industries to support the statewide initiative and emphasis on state-registered apprenticeship programs.

SPC developed a career certificate program through the Florida Department of Education framework and provides administrative support, including state registration of apprentices and tracking of related instruction and on-the-job training clock hours.
“SPC is proud to support the workforce by expanding our training opportunities in various fields, for both local and regional communities,” SPC apprenticeship coordinator Jennifer Bodnar said. “Apprenticeships provide resources to employers to create a stronger workforce, but also an incentive to apprentices (employees) to feel valued and experience structured training and education, which can lead to optimal organizational success and satisfaction.”
SPC’s goal is to strengthen the workforce through apprenticeship programs by offering structured on-the-job training and related-technical instructions.
