Top Headlines: Druid Trail Project, Where to Ring in the New Year, More Guns, Grenade Found in 'Heavily Armed' Mans Home and Pier 60 Repairs

1. The third phase of the Druid Trail project lengthens the route more than a mile with connections to the Pinellas Trail and Glen Oaks Park. The work is expected to take 180 days. 

2. There is no shortage of things to do in Pinellas County on New Year's Eve. Here's a sampling of some of the different places to ring in 2013.

3. City leaders unanimously approved spending $498,096 to repair portions of the concrete deck and pilings, replace railings and install a catwalk around the bait house at Pier 60 recently. The project is expected to take 180 days, starting in January, which would include construction time during Spring Break.

4. Police disclosed the weapons carried by a "heavily armed" suspect shot Sunday night by two officers. Mark Bill was armed with an AR-15 rifle, Mossberg 500 pistol grip shot gun, a Colt 45 pistol and three knives, according to investigators. Clearwater Police were called to do a welfare check on Bill and ended up shooting him when he came outside firing an assault rifle.

5.  While the University of Michigan football team practiced for the Outback Bowl, player's families will spend Christmas eve at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. About 100 people from player's families got a special meeting with Winter the Dolphin while the team practiced at Bright House Field. The bowl game also brings festivities and fans of the Gamecocks and Wolverines to town for Clearwater Beach Day on Dec. 30.
