Woman Accused of Torching Car Thought It Was Her Ex’s: Cops

Breaking: The Clearwater Police Department has announced the arrest of a women accused of torching a car last week.

CLEARWATER, FL — The search for an accused arsonist has ended in the arrest of a 19-year-old woman.

According to Clearwater police, Carmen Chamblee was brought into custody early Saturday morning by Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies. Chamblee was identified as the suspect in an arson that took place last weekend.

Police say Chamblee set a Honda Accord ablaze in the 1100 block of Blache B. Littlejohn Trail around 7 a.m. Aug. 28. The act was caught on video. The footage showed a woman “feeding the flames in the car’s trunk” before taking off from the area on a bicycle.

After her arrest, police say Chamblee told them “she thought the car belonged to an ex-boyfriend of hers, but that was not the case.”

Chamblee now faces second-degree arson charges, an email from the agency said. She was expected to be booked into the Pinellas County Jail.
