  1. During Dunedin's National Purple Heart Day event on Monday, 97-year-old Sissy Nielsen received a Purple Heart medal in honor of her brother, Otto Broker, who died on the battlefield in World War II. Broker was awarded the Purple Heart after he was killed in France at just 21 years old, however, his family never received the medal. Decades later, this error was corrected, and Broker was honored at a ceremony in Purple Heart Park. (WTSP)
  2. Dunedin Merchants shared some unfortunate news on Tuesday. According to their statement posted on Facebook, there won't be a Wines the Blues Festival this year. "Given the tough economic climate and rising costs that our organization and merchant membership face, the DDMA did not feel it could put on an event fitting the name of Dunedin Wines the Blues that we have all grown to love and expect." Hopefully, something can be done to rectify the situation! (Dunedin Merchants via Facebook)
  3. The Hale Senior Activity Center is offering a day trip for adults to the Tampa Bay Rays game on Sept. 21 to watch them play the LA Angels. Those interested must register by Aug. 18. Tickets are $40 per person and include a game ticket, Rays tote bag, and bus transportation. Learn more at the link! (City of Dunedin via Facebook)
