PINELLAS COUNTY, FL — The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is encouraging the public to be on alert to recent phone scams occurring in Pinellas County.
A man is calling residents in Pinellas County and identifying himself as a Pinellas County Sheriff's Office employee.
According to detectives, the man has called residents and identified himself as Captain Dwayne Somers. The man then informed the resident that they have an outstanding warrant and needed to pay him via Zelle.P

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office will never call residents requesting money over the telephone, via Zelle or any other money transfer app.
Residents should not give personal information or account information over the phone and call the sheriff's office to report such calls.
