Update On The Dunedin Water Plant
Most of the water processes are back online, making the water safe to drink.
December 4, 2021
Work continues to progress at the Dunedin Water Treatment Plant damaged by a fire on September 30th. Most of the water processes are back online, making the water safe to drink. The only process not online is the Reverse Osmosis (RO) process, which should be partially back online by mid-December, according to the City’s RO manufacturer. City staff, the insurance company, electrical and data subcontractors, and the RO engineer are working diligently, to get the facility repaired to an operationally functional state, as soon as possible. Once the RO process is online, there will be a gradual reduction of hardness as the RO treated water flushes through the distribution system. We hope to have more news on the Reverse Osmosis process very soon.

Water Quality – Safe, Clean and Healthy
Without the Reverse Osmosis process you may have seen some changes to your water like mineral deposits on dishes or appliances. Our hardness levels are about three times higher than their normal of 80-100 ppm (parts per million) versus the current 245-265 ppm. Since the fire, the only process not online is the Reverse Osmosis (RO) process. The RO process is what removes the hardness and provides a “softer” water. As soon as the RO is back online, the water and specifically the hardness will be back to pre-fire conditions.
