Dog Rescued From War-Torn Ukraine Becomes Drug-Sniffing FL Police K-9

Bruno, a chocolate Lab, was rescued shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine. He is now the newest member of the Fort Myers Police Department.

FORT MYERS, FL — A dog rescued from war-torn Ukraine has become the newest drug-sniffing K-9 for one Florida police department.

Meet Bruno, a chocolate Labrador retriever who's been given a new life in a new country and an opportunity to help keep the Fort Myers community safe. He is the newest police K-9 with the Fort Myers Police Department.

"Bruno will be a single-purpose narcotics detection canine assigned to our Group Violence Intervention Unit. Detective [Harrison] Williams will be Bruno’s handler," the police department recently posted to Facebook.

Williams told WINK-TV that Bruno was rescued shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine.

“He flew into Miami International Airport on a 10-hour flight from Amsterdam in the Netherlands, and I went down to Miami and picked him up,” Williams told the TV station.

Bruno came to the police department by way of Dog Scout Germany, the canine vendor it has used for many years.
