MATLACHA, FL — Local fishermen in Matlacha immediately called deputies for help when they found something strange in the water — a “human” hand at the bottom of a canal.

Deputies responded to the canal, which was about three feet deep, and tried to retrieve the “hand,” the Lee County Sheriff’s Office shared on Facebook.

Eventually, Cpl. Jay Brett used a mini barge to remove it from the water.

That’s when the fishermen and first responders realized it wasn’t human at all; it was a mannequin hand that had somehow found its way into the water, the sheriff’s office said.

“LCSO deputies always go the extra mile to ensure each call is handled seriously and professionally,” the agency said. “We are ready for every matter at hand!”
