• 2 people rescued after vehicle crashes into retention pond near I-75 exit in Fort Myers (gulfcoastnewsnow.com) — Two people were pulled to safety Friday evening after their vehicle plunged into a retention pond near I-75 Exit 136 in Fort Myers. Rescuers say the pair escaped onto the sinking car but couldn’t swim, so a rescue swimmer brought them to shore before they were taken to Lee County EMS. Fort Myers Fire crews also assisted at the scene.
   

• Lee County health officials warn of intestinal bacteria in the water at Lynn Hall Memorial Beach (wgcu.org) — If you’re heading to Fort Myers Beach, avoid the water at Lynn Hall Memorial Park for now—county health officials found high levels of intestinal bacteria and say even splashing at the shoreline is risky. The advisory, which also applies to pets, will stay in place until further testing shows the water is safe again, especially important for children, seniors, and anyone immunocompromised.
   

• Florida lawmakers propose eliminating yellow registration tag on license plates (fox4now.com) — State lawmakers are considering scrapping Florida’s yellow license plate registration stickers and moving to an all‑electronic system, and downtown Fort Myers residents are split on whether that’s a good idea. Supporters say it would save millions and reduce paperwork, while some local drivers worry about losing an easy reminder to renew. The proposal will be debated when the legislative session opens Tuesday.
