Business Booming at Gulfport Post Office

Stop by The Gulfport Beach Bazaar and you'll notice improvements throughout the entire store, starting with the new lighted Post Office sign out front.

"We love it," co-owner Angela Lagan said.

When Angela and Biff Lagan were granted the contract to run the post office, located inside the store, in December, they also received awesome news — the post office was to receive a $40,000 renovation project, funded by the U.S. Postal Service.

"Now, we're a full service post office, including international," Lagan said.

The renovation wrapped up late February, and the USPS sent out "invites" to more than 4,000 residents in this zip code. Lagan believes the post cards helps drive more people to the shop.

"We've had probably four times the business this March compared to last year in March," Lagan said.

As part of the renovation, the post office desk was moved closer to the front of the store and connected to the sales counter. This way, Lagan says, people can check out all in one spot. The move freed up space in the front and back of the store, and because of it, Lagan says they added seven new vendors and made more room for three existing vendors.

"We knew with improvements, we could make this store better! We are just beside ourselves," she said.

The best part about the change, Lagan says, is the positive feedback from customers. Every time someone comments on the new layout, she says, "it's like getting a bouquet of flowers every time."

The Gulfport Post Office is open seven days a week: Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sundays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
