Here's a selection of comments posted on Gulfport Patch in reaction to the news:

Bob Newcomb: "A boutique hotel of 44 rooms with an attached restaurant, pool and spa would not only be attractive to boaters, but would serve a real need in our city for additional lodgings. Some have visioned a much larger resort hotel on the site because a small hotel would not attract the "big flag hotels." Precisely the reason for a smaller, boutique hotel. There are private investors with a dream that could make it pay."

Mickey Birt: "It sounds like a nice idea- as long as it's SMALL. Parking and tourist traffic is going to be an issue for those of us who live here."

Linda Wallis: "I live in the Marina district and think liveaboards, boat lifts and a larger ship store make sense. I am NOT FOR a hotel in the marina district at all."

Phyllis Rosenblum: "As a marina districts homeowner, I am totally against having a hotel there. I just cannot fathom it. Makes little sense. What about the unsold rooms at the sea breeze and the peninsula. Are we really saying we want to develop Gulfport this way? I bet most owners in the marina district will oppose any such move."

Bill Church: "Visited the area again yesterday - Does the city own the USCG axillary building? If so that piece of property is perfect for a small hotel - great view, room for parking, access to the park - a short hop from downtown - plus lots to do in Pinellas, Hillsborough and Manatee counties for the touristas."
