Operation Medicine Cabinet Nets 1,500 Pounds of Medications
Gulfport Police helped collect unused prescription drugs as part of the semi-annual Operation Medicine Cabinet event on Saturday.
Since Operation Medicine Cabinet began in May 2009, officers across Pinellas County have collected nearly 13,000 pounds of medications including the collection from this past Saturday. On April 27, officials across the county collected 1,545.5 pounds.
The event is held twice a year to encourage people to safely discard unused or expired prescription medications. It is a multi-agency effort aimed at addressing the problem of prescription drug abuse and keeping a clean environment, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
If you missed the event, you may drop off medications at two Pinellas County Sheriff's Office locations during regular business hours.
