Yummy's Open For Business

Mary and Bill Stange drove down from Largo on Friday to try an authentic Chicago-Style hot dog at Yummy's on Beach Boulevard. 

"I'm happy to help them out," Mary Stange said.

The couple saw news reports about the damage at the local eatery on Thursday. Once they heard Yummy's was open for business, they came down for lunch.

"We like a good hot dog, Mary Stange said.

Gulfport resident Cindy French was driving by and quickly parked when she noticed people eating in the courtyard.

"I didn't know they were open. I think it's awesome, I thought it would be at least a week," she said.

Just 24 hours earlier a waterspout made landfall and traveled through downtown Gulfport, causing the 200-year-old Cedar tree to crash down on Yummy's patio. 

Owners Lori Luczak and Richard Reale made the decision on Wednesday to remain closed throughout the tropical storm. As a result, no one was at Yummy's when the tree came down and no one was hurt.

Reale says they will have to completely replace the patio. There's no timeline and no estimate as to the cost of the damage.
